I'm amazed that Toshiba can successfully sell a set-top appliance that large into the Japanese market. One would think the US market would be ideal, since people generally have more living space available.

Emm... last time I checked, HD-DVD's didnt hold 500 GB :| or do they mean 130 hours of hdtv + 4 hours of hd-dvd quality content?

The word "set-top" needs to be eliminated. Even a normal TV stand might have trouble with a 33 pound DVD player.

I'm just wondering what would cuase that device to be so big. It holds 1TB, so lets say 4x250GB drives. Plus the burner assembly, which can be squeezed into a 5 1/4 (if we look at a computer burner), and all the supporting electronics. Where's all the weight coming from?
