They should have kept the Conroe name. I don't want to call it anything else.

I kinda wish there was a S478 version, out of the blue, for Core 2 Solo.
It's the day before my birthday too, incidentally. |

I really, really doubt Intel will make a singlecore Conroe. 90% of all production is to be dualcores at the end of the year. We already see dualcores below 100$ in retail, tho P4s abeit.
Conroe-L seems to be Millville, a 1MB cache dualcore core 2 duo. If it should turn out to be a singlecore, then its lifetime would be very very short. |

Kitty probably glanced at the headline and saw July 2007!
For a split second he was in heaven lol. Here's a little press release from intel which Im sure he will enjoy... Announcing Intel® Core™2 Processor Family Brand Unified Desktop and Mobile Processor Brand Name Helps Users Better Choose the Right Solution. Intel® Core™2 Duo processor is the new brand name for our next-generation energy-efficient performance desktop and mobile processors. Formerly known by their codenames Conroe and Merom, the Intel® Core™2 processors for desktop and mobile computers are based on the Intel® Core ™ microarchitecture, Intel's new industry-leading foundation for all mobile, desktop and server platforms moving forward. By offering a single brand name for our mainstream desktop and laptop dual-core processors, Intel's branding strategy makes it simple for consumers and businesses to choose a powerful and energy efficient processor – and makes it easier for developers to "write once, run everywhere." You did note the "formerly known as Conroe" bit I hope Kit? You can buy one next month...that would be July 2006. <cough cough> :) |

Crap, four days?! Intel is clearly in trouble, and it's probably going to have to file chapter 11 because of this. This just goes to show you how carelessness and comfort at the top can lead to a certain demise. Intel is doomed.

If you think about it, AMD has plans for price cuts on July 24th...Is Intel having a bit of fun, screwing with AMD's plans? :-)
Or maybe they're making final preparations on distribution, and need a few more days? Who knows, its only 4 days...I've waited since the PIII's life was ended. (Haven't bought a P4-based solution, ever!)...What's another 4 days? :-) |

A 3.46GHz Celeron D... with 512K L2... and Netburst-based.
Why not just call it Celeron D - Revenge of the Northwood? A year ago... that would have been part of Intel's "Mad Hype MHz Yo!" lineup. Now, it's a bottom-scraper. So sad. |

Bah, you call 4 days a "delay"? When I saw the headline I was thinking in terms of software development, I guess. Look at Vista, Duke Nukem, stuff like that. Those guys would kill their mamas to only be 4 days late for a product launch. :)
