Are current X1900GT's "unlockable" to form a sort of cut-rate X1900XT or XTX?

Boo to ATi. Lowering specs while keeping the same name, bad taste...

Radeon 1900GTs already perform disappointingly compared to Geforce 7900GTs, and the prices aren't that hot either... And ATI is actually thinking about *downgrading* their mem speeds? Sheesh! They might as well call them 7600GT-for-the-price-of-a-7900GT and be done with it!

If ATI is serious about competing with the 7900GT, they had better upgrade the card's speed and lower its price, not do the opposite. While the 512MBs 1800XTs were an impressive alternative to 7900GT (excluding the problem of the noisy fan), ever since they were withdrawn, ATI has been severely lacking in the upper-midrange segment.
