"That said, DailyTech claims these updated prices will stick "well into 2007," which could give Intel room to undercut AMD once again."

Intel's processor still isn't available.

Often on tech sites it seems the future is discussed Ad nauseam, but the present is ignored Ad absurdum.

If I can get a 5000+ at that price for 939, I'll buy it. If its only for AM2, I'll prolly get an E6600 intead seeing as how I would have to buy a new MB and RAM anyways.

so this july 24 price drop is still just rumor altho from what ive seen it looks like its going to happen. is it going to apply to canada as well?

I've been looking to do this build for a long time and recenly my current comp crashed, hard drive is f*ked. and now i dont have a system at all. so i need to get this ASAP. If its a matter of waiting a few days after the 24th then i will wait. but if its not going to happen for a month or so then i want to buy right away.

So instead of a $1031 FX-62 processor competing with Intel's $316 part, AMD now has the same processor at only $799.

Bargain. Get me twelve!

be prepared to pay an 20-30US premium over these OEM distributer prices as places like Newegg and ZipZoomfly don't sell at this kinda of pricing now compared to the May figures on this list.

Keep that well in mind.

The actual comparison will come up like this:

Core 2 Extreme X6800 999US vs Athlon FX 62 827US

Core 2 Duo E6700 530US vs nothing in this bracket
Core 2 Duo E6600 316US vs Athlon 64x2 5000+ ~300US

Core 2 Duo E6400 224US vs Athlon 64x2 4600+ ~250US
Core 2 Duo E6300 183US vs Athlon 64x2 4200+ ~190US

Pentium D 945 163US vs Athlon 64x2 3800+ ~ 160US

My jaw just dropped to the floor....those are tempting prices..but the Conroe looks tempting as well...but then again as a gamer it really makes almost no difference what CPU I have, especially if the GPU is doing all the work at the higher Res I like to game at. I hope Opteron prices would do the same, then man would I be all up on AMD's chips. I already run nothing but AMD but these new Intel sound oh so tempting. And the prices they are bringing them in at are just too tempting...I feel like Adam in the Garden of Eden....

With Intel introducint the E6600 at such a "reasonable" price compared to AMD's offerings it seems that instead of making alot of money that Intel wants to bleed AMD dry in a price war.

Yay! for competition!

AMD has to slash prices of all CPU or non. Who would buy Athlon X2 3800+ for $277 when there's 5000+ for $282 or 4600+ for $224. If the prices are correct we can expect them in one time.

Edit: I've just found this: http://dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3361

AMDs ASPs are going to take a nose dive. Well it was good for them while it lasted.

I wonder what's going to happen if the Intel parts get delayed or whatever. I mean until the Intel parts arrive in volume they can leave their prices at reasonble levels instead of these kinds of murderous cuts.

Applies to 939 as well. Prices are the same for both platforms

If AMD gave one last slice of lovin' to us 939 folks that aren't ready to upgrade to AM2 so soon, I'd bite.

How about a 939 pin 5000+ X2?

Oh well, I can dream, can't I?

That x2 5000+ looks really attractive at that price for the non-overclocker. Personally I would rather cough up the extra $34 for a E6600 but when you consider availability (and when you find an E6600, itll probably be more than $316), the 5000 doesnt look bad.

Intel have stated that they will not be making any price cuts on Conroe this year. Did I read that here, or DailyTech, or The Inquirer?

Anyway, if AMD were going to drop prices in October, would you buy a CPU in August?

I doubt they will make price cuts, although I hope that they will release a 5200+ (2.6GHz 1MB) and 5400+ (2.8GHz 512KB) X2 at some point, even at higher pricepoints.

Intel has the performance crown, when the processors are available.

AMD is still competitively priced in the largest portion of the marketplace. Indeed if the sub $300 Conroes aren't available until Q4 they're pretty much got it wrapped up.

FX processor is still at a joke price. Come on, $599 might get a few buyers! Maybe that would be a problem for AMD :p

Ouch -- glad I don't own AMD stock!

It's a great time to be a consumer, though -- at those prices, the X2s will be a very good deal.

E6400 (2.13GHz/2MB) versus 4600+ (2.4GHz/512KB for $224.

That looks like the sweet spot and nice battle for overclockable parts.

BTW, FP!!!!!!!
