Nvidia seems to believe that it will significantly increase its share of discrete graphics on intel platform while still keeping some market share on AMD's platform.

That is a reasonable assumption in the short term. But in the longer term does anyone seriously believe that Intel will leave the $3B discrete graphics market alone?

Combined CPU and GPU comes with two startlingly obvious points from me

1 Low cost / Low performance compromise will be the first step
2 Everyone knows that dedicated add-in boards are usually much better than their on-board, integrated siblings

Where did Nvidia and some of the posters here get the idea that this means the end of ATI chipsets for Intel CPUs? No one has said that, and I don't believe it will be so. If anything, AMD *wants* that toehold in the enemy's camp. You get more cash for a CPU than a chipset, sure, but getting *any* cash at all from a sale of the other guy's product is a big big win.

nvidia is making a pretty strong claim, saying that "We are now the only graphics processor and core logic company that supports both Intel and AMD processors." plainly, it's the "core logic" bit of that "and" that makes it a valid statement... and possibly tips the hand on intel's "no comment at this time about any possible impact".

They can start by releasing official nvidia drivers that support the Intel 975x chipset, so I don't have to use hacked ones anymore for my 2x7900 GTX 2.93 ghz Conroe box.

Nvidia's spokesperson could have saved time by just saying, "I have no clue what it all means".

A plane to Sunnyvale Scott? Should we be expecting an interview with AMD?

I would like to actually here what Intel has to say about this and even maybe counter it.

Would be funny to imagine if Intel managements is asking there accounting department to punch up some numbers on how much NVIDIA cost... /joke
