PLASTIC SURGEON |
This is off topic somewhat, however ties in somewhat with all this console news. This is what Crytek has said of these "Next" generation consoles:
Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don’t offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported. Diemer explained that “next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power” to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/11651/Crytek-Next-Gen-Consoles-Are-To... With all these CPU and GPU downgrades, could future PC games run poorly on these "next" generation consoles? Just thinking out loud. |

#20, Exatcly what I was thinking. Nintendo will sell because of their innovation and low price. Microsoft will sell because they have a system that's about half as cheap as the PS3. And Sony will sell because, well, they're Sony and they have more fanboys than Star Trek. But even fanboys aren't complete morons, and I think people are catching on.
According to reports, MS is going to try to lower the prices of the 360 so the premium bundle is $300 dollars. If this stays true, along with a reported $170 Wii, you could get a Premium 360 and a Wii for less than the price of the cheapest PS3. That fact alone will probably be enough to discourage many people from buying it, along with the fact that people like me just don't have the money to spend on it. |

Don't forget they are lowering the clock on the RSX also. Reducing the clock on the GPU, Cell getting bad yields and being reduced in capability and clock, what else is next? Oh yeah, limited availability.

There will be shortages in the sense that Sony won't be able to ship as many as they want to, but I wouldn't be so sure that there will be shortages in the sense that people who actually want to pay $499 or $599 for a console won't be able to find a PS3.

And this is news because....? I'm guessing the first 5 million consoles would sell out because of the massive amount of PS fanboys that would buy it even at 600 bucks or more. OTOH, when the rabid mobs settle down sales would be less than estellar without some price cuts. the 700.000 or so units in north america (since the launch shipment is about 2 mill worldwide) would sell out in a matter of days if not hours.

O RLY?
Hello the indictions were everywhere. Cell having yielding problems, redesigning the chassis because the original was too small to cool the crap and design another revision of dualshock controller to mimic Wii. |

It called marketing. By pretending that there will be shortages they hope someone will actually buy one.

Didn't Sony make some snide remark that this would never happen to them after the XBox 360 launch?

As a HD-DVD supporter, I won't cry if the PS3 has production problems/shortages/bad sales.

Industry Analysts sounds like a sweet job. You simply make predictions from people you talk to and items you read from the internet. Even if it's BLATANTLY OBVIOUS, your "industry analyst" words seem to mean something worth printing.
