Ah yes, the old 5-10 years ploy. Back when I was the age of the average poster here (20+ years ago), inertial confinement fusion (a/k/a laser fusion) was 5-10 years away.

There is still the problem that non-silicon semiconductor is ridiculously expensive stuff as it's pretty rare and not pure.
I'm still hoping they can pull a rabbit out of the hat using Raman scattering to modulate the wavelengths that are produced to 1550nm. Intel apparently did this a while back. |
