So negative...

Look at it this way, I can put "It's all about the Pentiums baby!" in my sig and have the statement carry some weight for a change.

C2D, Core 2 Duo, Core, Conroe or any other core just doesn't have the same ring to it.

So a new sig for Convert = a win.

Since they're single core, I wonder if they'll work in old socket 775 boards, like those based on i925.

I see some nice overclocking potential, single core Pentium M style architecture at 65nm with only 1MB of L2 on an 800Mhz FSB... (1.6Ghz=800Mhz x2 Multiplier? 1333Mhz x2=2667)
So an easy 2.667Ghz on air and under $100?
Sounds nice...

Am I the only one who thought the Core 2 should have been named Pentium 5? It is the next generation.

Mad overclocking? Single-core, only 1mb of cache and supposedly specced for only 1.8ghz max? We know most Conroe dual-cores with 2-4MB of cache can do 3ghz, I wonder if these Conroe-L have the potential to go even higher than a normal Conroe.

I'm all for it. I hate that "Core blah blah" naming scheme. They shoulda just taken the Centrino name to the desktop ... or something. Anyway.

Pentium 4 531, 541, 631, 641, and 651 chips will go down from their existing $74-163 price range to a more affordable $69-84. !!!!???? 5 chips in the span of $15? That seems ... dumb?

How important is dual core really? I havn't got any feeeling of "upgrade" when I moved from A64@ 3Ghz to an X2 @ the same 3Ghz. I want to say I feel it because time spent building yet another computer but I don't... pretty sad huh?

800MHz front-side bus

Thats the real news here besides price. Uber clockers on the cheap ahead because of relativly high multiplier....:)

For less than $80 one could have a 4Ghz p6. Again who cares if it's dual core? It's fast as hell in everything but Cinebench which no one uses anyway.

*sigh* I guess theres always going to be a market for single core processors just like theres still a market for $15 video cards out there.

This is just evidence that Intel has not fired enough marketing people yet.

It's a plot. A heinous plot to make it impossible to clearly understand which processor is which.

So I take it the Core moniker is not making as much money as once believed and now they have to revert back to the naming that people recognize?
