#23 I left out a bit, I should have said 'a good HDCP-ready current DX9 SM3' card after DX10 ones hit. That's the one that will go into an HTPC. Then when DX10 is actually useful beyond a few titles the GPUs and Vista will have matured and I'll get one. I'm thinking the Q3/Q4 '07 refresh should be good. I am in no way shape or form considering getting one of the first-gen DX10 cards.

#11 Crysis is set for what, Q3-ish 2007? And Alan Wake is...? I'm still holding out for a game that pushes gameplay forward as much as graphics and still gains some attention.
Saying that waiting nearly a year for there to be something big, new, or 'revolutionary' is pretty much a no brainer, depending upon what a person uses now. Personally I'm thinking of buying a good HDCP-ready for relatively little *after* the first wave of DX10 ones come out. It would still serve me well for a while as a main graphics card, be pretty cheap, and then serve on for years in an HTCP. |

#1, reason we're seeing so many "good value" solutions from ati/nvidia alike has to do w/ dx10 cards being right around the corner, obviously... crysis/alan wake have convinced me that dx10/sm4 will indeed be worth it, & as soon as that stuff is out in the marketplace, dx9 cards will become damn-near pointless for the enthusiast crowd.
hard for me to hold out as well (nearly had to smack myself to step away from a $229 1900xtx available through an employee=accomodation type of deal) but i'm doing my best :-/ |

So 7900GTO is faster than 7900GS? By what margin?

Isn't everything priced rediculously in Australia when you do a straight currency conversion?

We're getting ‘priced gouged’ down here in Oz. The cheapest 7900GTO I could find is going for $505AUD (which is essentially $378USD)....this blows....
EDIT: Even worse, just checked the price of the EVGA card down here, it's coming in at $540AUD....which is $404USD.................................................................................................................. :( |

Wow. I can't remember a time when there were so many compelling, fast graphics cards at the sub-$275 point. Too bad I don't need one..or so I tell myself, anyway.

Well, I couldn't resist. I decided to get one from ZZF ($264 + Free Shipping; 2-day is only $2.00 more too). I've never bothered overclocking, but I just might see if I can take the memory up to 1600. After all, it's covered under the warranty :D I'll be selling my 7800 GT (470/1100) if anyone's interested :)

I guess nv's partners are trying to use up as much of the g7x GPUs as possible? I saw one forum reviewer say he got it up to 705/1700 core/memDDR http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=479568 is that what 7900GTX memory goes to? If so that's a smoking card.
