This attitude manifested by Sony is just more of their arrogance. We first saw it openly displayed in the "Root kit" debacle. Sony deserves to go bankrupt for their low opinion of those who used to buy their products.

Ultimate arrogance. In five years time, a first-gen PS3 (and Xbox360) will likely be adorning a garage sale or serving as a useful doorstop. Just as with PCs, advances in console hardware technology, particularly in the areas of graphics, hardware-assisted AI and physics -- all in the name of action-realism -- will be getting shorter and shorter. Expect both the Xbox360 and the PS3 to be into their 3rd hardware generation 5 years after their respective introductions, and hopefully backward compatible with 2006-vintage "legacy" software.

As an American consumer, I don't mind the delay either. I would not mind if it never shows up.

The 360 has already won this round IMHO.
There is a second wave of 360 games hitting the market from now until the end of the year that will just create a wider gap and shore up the 360 lead. |

The picture that comes to mind is Sony putting its foot in its mouth up to the kneecap...And I thought Sony had already shot off both feet with previous statements and announcements, and all this was only related to the POS3 with no mention of the absolutely massive battery recall...
I would hate to be Sony's financial department - they have to be thinking that positive numbers are only imaginary at this point. |

Not just don't we mind any delays Sony likes to impose on us, we also enjoy using that extra time to safe some dough to pay for the insane premium they ask from us.

Basically, they are attempting to minimize risk. A reasonable strategy for a corporation. Past Playstation generations have shown that European demand has been strong with delays in place, so they are not going to risk delaying another market to see what happens in that case. However, those observations don't yield the conclusion that European consumers "don't mind delays". That's a stupid point to make, in my opinion. The cost of the delays is simply hard to quantify, specially if you don't have comparative data for other markets. Interestingly, the simultaneous release of new generation machines in all markets may allow to quantify this delay more formally in the future. And I'm sure the numbers would be interesting; Europe is already a bigger, although more complex market than the US or Japan. |

Right...so because we buy them in the end it means we dont mind that we get shafted and made to wait...er ....no. We mind.
And if we end up buying as many or more, doesnt that mean they should be trying to keep *us* happy ? If we buy more of them theres more profit to be made here... ;) |
