For some reason, I have flashbacks of Netburst..."will scale well past 10GHz". Time will tell. Intel seems to have woken up, but for how long?

What I really like is..57W..down from 65W (If its right). One day I hope passive cooling and later on no heatsink at all. Now if only GPU makers would start do the same!

Now that Intel is done with their version of the "NV30" (Netburst), I guess the game's afoot again. Yikes.

Acctually speaking AMD will now never win atleast in the clock speeds field against the intel warlords... Sad news for me as i have been a great fan of AMD's 754 Socket processor... although i will be shifting soon to something good ... may be intel if AMD has no answer to C2D CPUs forget the 45 nm tech C2D proc....

Wow. This makes me wonder if AMD plans to focus primarily on quad-core and beyond. As for "goodbye AMD", I doubt it. They've been around a long time now and have produced some revolutionary chips. They may take it on the chin for the next couple of rounds, but I certainly would not count them out. Plus, who knows all the directions they plan to go, what with the ATI purchase and so forth. All that being said, if what's reported is true re. the Intel chips, they should be congratulated. And while I've used nothing but AMD cpus since I started building systems four years ago, if I was going to build a new system today, I definitely would be looking at Conroe.

But I'm not building anything until Vista (I have RC2, and it definitely needs resources) and DX10 arrive and the hardware requirements to really utilize them becomes more evident.

The sad thing is that GPU R&D will be the first thing to take the axe, and given the supposed state of R600, I wouldn't be suprised if that was the last high-end GPU (R6x0 refreshes notwithstanding) to come out of AMD.

This makes me want to put off getting a C2D and just get a cheapo LGA775 CPU and system in the mean time. Any idea on mobo compatability?

ummm...Now. where is my K8L or 4x4 under 100.00 $, Mr LoganX ?

Intel have really pushed their 45nm process to get it out so early. Maybe AMD will have a couple of months lead on their next cores, but even they were probably betting on Intel only getting minimal shipments of 45nm in 2007, and a proper ramp in 2008.

Sad though, I would have expected AMD to get better clock speeds from 65nm by late 2007.

Is this going to turn out like Japan vs. the United States? Because if Intel keeps up this pace; saying that the sleeping giant has awoken will be quite accurate.

Ed at Overclockers calls this one right (if the rumor is true). Those clock speeds are going to be brutal for AMD.
