Exactly what we need, yet another CPU company, even further behind in the process game ...

Honestly I'm a little bit worried about monolithic do-it-all chips. It takes away from open standards and customization which is what makes PCs fun to mess with. If the cost doesn't go up then ok, but being forced into certain combinations, unless there is an equal depth and breadth of choices, doesn't bode well for DIYers.

Seems to me there are some companies who are overly optomistic... Just a few...
especially the phrase, sometime in 2008 I wonder if all (or any) of these companies will have a 45 nm product in 2008, not that I care that much, just wondering. |

WTF is Nvidia thinking, making CPGPUs?? Didn't they learn their mistake from trying to make motherboard chipsets??
Oh, wait, aren't they like the biggest and most popular third party chipset for both sides of the CPU wars now? Gosh, how did they ever manage to make a successful non-GPU project? What if they do it again, and start making integrated CPUs or co-processors? |

I was thinking 'which platform they would compete on'. Wasn't there a rumor recently about intel opening up their FSB? And nVid10T already knows how to use HT. Maybe they'll just make a version of their chip for each.

maybe it will go more into the direction of coprocessors for the amd torenza and intel pcie initiatives. Anyway competition is never bad for consumers.

Looks more like some false rumour to me. Or perhaps a minor thing blown out of protortion to something its not. It takes Intel and AMD around 3-6 years to make a new design. intel changes this to 2 years with more minor updates. So unless nVidia has been working on this for a long time with massive resources I dont see it happend.

Just as CBGB dies, we get CP(u)/GP(u)!

This combined with all the jobs postings from Intel looking for graphics specialists... It looks like we're going to have 3 CPU-GPU makers.
Perhaps some of those cores in future models will be GPUs. Gotta keep the obsolescence cycle alive! ;) |

just brew it! |
I think it would be really hard for a third major player to break into the x86 CPU market at this point, though nVidia is probably in a better position than anyone else to do so, given their strong presence in the chipset and graphics markets.
In any case, if nVidia/Stexar starts to pose a serious threat in the desktop CPU market, Intel will find a way to sue them for IP infringement. |

It'd better be bloody impressive if they don't want to be just another VIA.
