I want a Macbook, but I hate the fact that you can't get a real graphics chip in the laptop. The Pro is a little large for what I want, and I hate the keyboard's feel, so what is there for someone like me to do? I don't know why Apple won't bridge the gap between the MB and MBP line. There is a lot of breathing room there to offer more product.

The X1600 should be in the MacBook. The MacBook Pro should get the X1800 or, if technically possible, the 7950 GTX. A resolution bump on both the 15" and 17" would be nice.

Still no resolution upgrade? Why is it that Apple thinks that 1440x900 is a decent screen resolution? I've been waiting for this upgrade for a while, wanting to buy a macbook. But I am replacing my 2nd toshiba with a 1920x1200 screen resolution, and going down to this 1990's screen res just sucks. Note to Apple: stop compromising what is an other wise well engineered machine just to save some $$$$.

i was waiting on this to buy one, but somehow i'm still underwhelmed. 'm leaning toward the next update in the spring when they refresh the chipset and maybe offer better hard drive options.

Double ram, bigger HD, faster CPU and more batter all for the same price...wow...sounds like a good deal...too bad I still can't afford apple.

And presumably there will be another refresh of the line next year when the new mobile chipset debuts (people are already complaining about the 3GB max memory limitation).
It's going to be interesting watching the Mac user community get accustomed to the pace of technology refreshes that the PC side of the world takes for granted. Already you see a lot of people complaining because they bought a MacPro within a few months of introduction and "already" it is old tech. Macs have always been perceived to depreciate more slowly because old Macs didn't get obsolete as quickly: generally older Macs could run newer software adequately longer than was the case with PCs. And while that's still somewhat true, it's also the case that PCs got obsoleted more quickly because software developers were able to assume a faster pace of hardware development and could be more aggressive (or sloppier) in terms of minimum acceptable hardware for their next version. The increased rate of improvement and obsolescence are the two sides of the x86 coin. (In PC version of those Mac and PC ads it's really the PC guy who should be wearing different clothes in every ad, with the Mac guy only lately getting around to updating his clothes regularly. Also in that version the PC guy would insist on talking about games ;) ) |

Whatever happened to the challenge from the digruntled Mac Enthusiast website?
Are we going to see a performance comparison between comparable notebooks or what? Lining up them Core 2 Duo for PC & Mac is a good start. I pay for blood! |

I placed my order as soon as the apple store was back on line. This is what I've been waiting for!
