Why would 5400RPM make the most sense for the technology? I wouldn't buy a laptop for myself unless it had a 7200RPM drive. Pairing a slow hard drive with the typical dual-core, 1GB+ configuration is sheer stupidity (at least for someone who needs to run software more demanding than Powerpoint).

Could the RIAA misconstrue this 128-bit encryption technology as a protection for piracy and go after Seagate? For example, would this encryption also prevent RIAA from looking at the contents of ones disk drive?

I wonder how these will boot... I've never used the ATA password fuction mentioned in the article so I don't know much about that. I assume the bios will need to be aware of these and a password will have to be entered before booting.
