ATI may have seemed to have had a sort of monopoly...if you don't get out much in the AV world. :p.

Yeah, Hauppauge is pretty big in the SD world. You start getting into other companies for HD stuff like MIT ([url=http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/mdp130.aspink[/url]) and whatnot. [On a side rant, glad all that broadcast flag junk is history]

Check out the AVS Forum: www.avsforum.com if your interested in learning more in this area, though do lots of forum researching before posting noob questions (think Gentoo, rather than Vector Linux).

yeah, real smart after canceling the AIW.
never made sense to me why they did that in the first place.
they had a monopoly on the niche market and they screw it up.
maybe nvidia will take up the slack?

If they get these put together with some of the X2 35W chips, they could get away with a fanless heatsink, and if they used a low power enough board, or one with a jumbo heat pipe if you wanted(they have 7600s and 7900s with those, even 7950s).
