Oh boy! Blu-Ray drives are going to appear in computers that only beret wearing homosexual mimes buy!
And die, Blu-Ray, die. |

This was already rumored years ago. Apple sits on the BRD committee, don't they?
Myself, I like the idea of bigger optical disks, and my mild case of fanboi inspires me to cheer. ;) |

Why seem so many people to "hate" Blu-ray? I am looking forward to a medium with a big capacity. I am sick and tired of using heaps of DVDs to backup stolen content as well as my important data. 50GB per disk sounds way better than 30GB per disk. I understand that the Blu-ray format has a DRM-scheme but that won't keep me from storing and viewing said stolen content or storing my other data. Am I missing something? Is it the price? Or are people just stupid? Somebody (if possible a non-zealot) clue me in, please. Thanks. :)

The fact that Sony is having so much trouble with the blue diode means that it could be a long time before they are finally able to get the supply problems figured out. Until such time as the supply problem goes away, blue ray is going to be expensive. That's not why I hate it though. I hate it because it's another Sony proprietary format. I'm wondering how much royalty is on blu-ray.
And in terms of storage, last I heard they were still having trouble getting dual layer blu-ray disks out, where as HD-DVD hasn't had any trouble with dual layer. So from the information I've heard, HD-DVD already has more storage capacity/disk. * *I by no means stand behind this 100%. Just what I heard. If I'm wrong, please show me a link and I'll edit my post. |

In other Apple rumors, they've issued a quick PR about those who just recently purchased the Intel based Macs: HA HA!
Apple then went on the record to state they are again transitioning their platform to the Cell chips. The newer "Rosetta" will now translate PPC and x86 to Cell. |

Sony has done some real dumb stuff but the marketing division is largly responsible for that. Sony engineering, their hardware department, has always been a good outfit.
M$ has been really shafting the world for a long time and I don't really understand how they are so much better than Sony. Anyway you'll need weapons to pry my sweet new Sony 34XS955 HDTV CRT from my hands. Damn Q4 at 1920x1080 is just unbelievable on my 30" wide display. There will be a PS3 to feed it too but not for a while, maybe in the spring. PenGun |

Probably only as a built-to-order option.
Makes sense, as Apple's on the BluRay fence, along with the majority of companies. Also it will be a very useful thing for the types of people that use Macs for video, etc. |

Apple and Sony have always been close, so this is no surprise, even if it is disappointing.

Good to hear. I was thinking about switching right around then. This makes the decision even easier.
