Errr PCI-E x1 SATA HD controllers/Raid Controllers have been on newegg for quite a long time. Not to mention more expensive and bigger slot variants all the way up to 16 port SATA cards that fit in a x8 slot.

Really? A mobo with PCIe but no SATA...seems hard to believe.

Anyhow, what is the deal with the lack of optical SATA drives? I checked a month ago or so and the cheapest I could find was somewhere around $1000...is there a technical reason for the holdup? I'm perfectly ready to ditch parallel ATA altogether.

I don't know about you guys, but in our IT dept, we get Dell GX520 & 620 systems, and they all have SATA optical drives, some are burners and some are combos.
