The actual reason they're not bringing this exact chip to market is pretty clear to me from this sentence:

The resulting chip contains 100 million transistors, which Intel has packed into a die area of 275mm².

That chip would be fantastically expensive to make and sell.

Embarassingly parallel? ... Dude ... this is like the first actual possible ray tracing chip at 60 fps XD

Cool idea, but I wonder what sort of latency you would get going through this thing?

Maybe thats why they abandon it?
