I am starting to suspect Nvidia is just stonewalling till people upgrade to a Core duo system.

I mean, I don't mind blowing a few hundred bucks on a new MB, CPU, 4gb ram, a $300 video card. What I mind is a perfectly usable system (S939 x4400 x2, 4 1GB Dimms, Ati 1950xpro) would end up in the dump discharging mercury and what not.

Seems to me a few bits of code are more ecological than new hardware.

I'd even pay money for the drivers. Say $50 to save me the trouble of assembling new crap.

Nvidia's going to need killer, killer as in 15% or better performance for the dollar to get me to purchase a product from them again for a while. Not that my dollar counts for much.

Shows how much this announcement is crap. Here it's april and still no drivers, more than two months after vista has been released.

Nvidia Platform Products PR Manager Bryan Del Rizzo has e-mailed us saying, "There is a known issue with ATI AGP cards and nForce3 and Vista. This is currently being looked into and will most likely be resolved with a MCP driver update."

I'd really like to know what this "known issue" is, since it's been completely unknown to me while running Vista on my nf3 motherboard (MSI K8N Neo2 Plat) with two separate ATi gpus (x800 xt AGP and x1950 Pro AGP) and two separate A64 cpus (New Castle and San Diego.) The 7.1 Catalysts are the best yet--I've never used the Windows-generic ATi drivers, actually.

But, I don't use onboard sound, either--am currently using an x-Fi Xtreme, and I've never used nVidia RAID at all, either under XP or Vista, but have always used a Promise Fast Track TX4200 with my twin Maxtor 300-gig SataII's--no problems there with Vista.

I think nVidia just needs to decide whether its going to support Vista with drivers for the current hardware it's selling. An MCP "update" is a start, but hardly the answer, seems to me.

Not to forget that if you own Nforce 2 with SoundStorm you can't use the Dobly Digital Live feature if you use Realtek drivers.

So summing up the whole Nvidia motherboards, video cards + Vista experience as noted here over the last few weeks/months.
NVidia drivers are teh suck.
Dont ever, ever whine again about ATI drivers without adding"but Nvidias drivers suck worse".

Oh... and yeah. I'm never buying an Nvidia TV tuner again. ;-)

NVTVs will work in the 32bit version of Vista by using XP drivers, but there are anecdotal reports of instability this way. I haven't seen any cards using the LSI DVXplore (the chipset NV uses) that work 100% in Vista, and word is that there will never be official Vista drivers, since MS sources Vista MCE tuner cards from other parties, especially Hauppage.

Now if only NVTV would get Vista support.

I bet they couldn't hold back the mirth at saying "ATI AGP".
I really wonder what the specifics of the compatibility problems are ... they'll most linkely be held back by the secured transaction requirement for hardware interacting with Vista, IM ever so HO. But that's just a guess.

Yay! I contributed to some of the anger that got them to change their minds... I was damn close to selling this box and never buying Nvidia again. I must have dropped tons of requests for information and passed to story around to tons of nforce3 users. My main box will be good for... oh a few more years.

Cyril, did they name a date?

Guess they woke up and smell the stink PR they are getting. Should have known this will be a problem. Oh well, at least they reconsidered so I guess it's not half bad.

pfft, soundstorm.

This is good news, though...I have no intention of dumping my current rig, and the fact that Vista support wasn't forthcoming just punished Microsoft more than anything else.
