Ironic that the company that was essentially born out of the Newton is going back to its source for fresh blood. Wasn't the CEO of Palm quoted as saying before the iPhone intro they do not think Apple can simply walk in to the smart phone business.

I guess they realized after the intro that Apple just did.

Not to marginalize what this guy has done, but what can he bring from his knowledge about Apple way back from 1994 that would be relevant today?

The man to take on the iPhone is the man responsible for the failed Newton PDA... something about this decision seems unwise. Additionally, why did mobile companies wait 'til Apple's product unveiling to suddenly announce their competitive eagerness? Rumors surrounding an iPhone were going for months -- the fact that now, after Apple announced the iPhone, competition arises is sure to only bolster the die-hard Apple-ite mindset that innovation is nonexistent outside of One Infinite Loop...

I hope they come out with something substantial based on this effort sooner rather than later. Palm OS is in danger of becoming irrelevant and Windows Mobile just doesn't do anything for me.
