freakin-a ! its a PCI-e sound card! good show, as this will make creative push towards PCI-e cards, even though eax will make this card as useful as the auzentech meridian card.

Does creative has the props on EAX and all that jazz? Unless you really are a gamer (EAX & Creative only apply) and really have surround sound, I(5 -6 speakers) don't see any need for a non-on board soundcard at all.

You don't have to worry too much about drivers, ADI drivers are fairly mature at this point, they have been around several years. However if they are "tweaked" for this design, then all bets are off.

I'm with Anemone. Boutique or specialized one-off products from the OEM, motherboard or Taiwanese (hell or even non-Taiwanese) manufacturers never get software support or fixes before they are abandoned. Buying one of these is a driver nightmare waiting to happen.

Either buy something generic with generic chipset-level drivers or buy from the one with the majority share, as sucky and evil as Creative are.

You know, 3 months after you buy an Asus product you might wait months for a driver fix. Creative is really bad about fixing things, but Asus ain't no pickle either, to coin a phrase. Oh well. We do need someone with major experience and driver building practice to compete with Creative, so on the whole I guess it's a good thing. Drivers are still going to be a nightmare with every new release.

Sure its a fan? On the other Cebit pics it looks more like a loudspeaker wannabee chassis thing.

A fan? What are they thinking? I wonder if it like the K shaped heatsink on a Killer NIC? Unnecessesary just to make look high end. I imagine the electrical noise from the fan effecting the audio quality.

while i welcome any competitor to take down Creative, i'd rather my sound cards not to make any sounds themselves...
