I will be the first to say it.

Starcraft II is going to be a huge letdown and people thought Warcraft III was a letdown.

Blizzard missed their boat by a couple of years.

I've been so starved for some real RTS action I actually reloaded Starcraft/Broodwar a few weeks ago and played through the levels. Still an amazing game.

I really wanted to see Diablo 3 being announced, but in all fairness, the StarCraft crowd has been waiting the longest for a sequel. I didn't care for the original game myself, but I know it will sell like hotcakes.

What if.....Blizzard had to create new IP? Is it even possible?

It would be neat to have a new StarCraft tho. Only if I can play it alone as well as online.

Meh, I was a Total Annihilation fan. Starcraft with the screen locked to 640x480 and 2d sprites seemed pathetic by comparison.

I still fire up TA at 1600x1200 today and it is still fun and even looks half decent with high res and 3d units.

But there must something there, A zillion Koreans can't be all wrong about starcraft. If the new game gets a decent rating, I may look into it this time. Supreme Commander is just too much of a resource pig. Not everyone buys 8800GTX and quad cores to play games.

Funny, I mentioned that SC2 was announced back back here:

http://techreport.com/ja.zz?comments=12348

I find this following TeamLiquid translation to be of much more value than some post on Kotaku, if only because the South Koreans hold more rapport with Blizzard than some American shock-news gaming blog (especially as pertinent to SC):

http://teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=52433

As it stands, though, StarCraft 2 has not been announced. It seems infinitely likely, but it's not definite as of yet. Can I still hold out hope that another game set in the Diablo universe will come to fruition within my lifetime?! Perhaps.. *crosses fingers really hard*

As excited as I am about the possibility starcraft 2, it is still just a possibility. I don't know how long I've wondered when/if they were going to do a sequel, but I think a safe estimate would be at least since 2000.

If this turns out to be for real, I don't think it will be possible for it to live up to the pent up desire for this sequel. Also if this is real, are they just starting development now? If that's the case, and we have to wait for Blizzard to 'get it right' (which they almost always do, bless their little hearts) we're not gonna see the hallowed Starcraft 2 until 2009 or 2010.

STARCRAFT SUCKS

It doesn't matter if you play money maps or not, it's the same old crap. Go play on bnet and you'll see what I mean. Outdated game, crappy 2D graphics, no real strategy, the units are all totally out of proportion with each other. It's a game meant for young children, so if you're over 17 and you still play this game, yes, you are a loser.

Sounds like an MMORPG and not a RTS, in which case, meh. I don't want to spend the money or time on a MMORPG, even if it is based on StarCraft.

NEW MMO:

STARCRAFT UNIVERSE

(because, duh, world wouldn't fit but that sure does)

Anyways enough joking, with the massive amounts of cash they've been wallpapering their offices with from WoW, theres quite a lot they could be doing right now.

Starcraft: Online will be amazing. 2 things to consider - if they stay true to the source material, then the Zerg will NOT be a PC race - they can't be in an MMO, they would have to be an NPC race like the Burning Legion in WoW. Maybe you could play the Hybrids as a PC race, or maybe a neutral one. Who knows.

STARCRAFT is the best RTS ever made. After ten years since lauch I'm still plaiying it. "Give me something to shoot!" "go go go!" "Battlecruiser operational". Boy do I love Starcraft! I cant wait to play it in 3D with DX10 and all eye candy.

Now all we need is for Bungie to announce a new Myth. Both these studios can't help but milk their cash cows and forget about the projects that made them great.

Anyone else fear 3D RTS's? I miss 2D sprites. For me, it was just easier to spot units, and the navigation seemed quicker/smoother.

I'd like to see a Warcraft RTS that is an update of the old WarCraft2 -- not an RPG, not a massive online thing, just a plain old single player RTS game with wizards, orcs, and dopey sounding peasants. I really liked WarCraft2, but it doesn't seems that there's anything out there quite like it now.

Edit: After visiting wikipedia, it's clear that I'm getting it confused with another game.

Not to be a hater or anything, but I really think this is suicide for them. I don't think any company run by human beings with actual deadlines and realistic limitations, could live up to the ridiculous hype machine that StarCraft II would morph into. On the other hand if creating a license to print money (WoW) has given them enough guts to have a go at making a sequel, I will applaude their courage.

Personally, I will round out the contrariness of this post by saying that as much as I am a StarCraft fan, I would rather see them actually follow through on Ghost. I'd like to see what they can do with the concept totally in-house.
