Yes, I love AMD and all, but, its time for an Intel QuadCore system.

Anyone know if they fixed the noise that the current gen chips make when they switch from "low power" to "high power" modes under very heavy loads?

Just bought an E6420 system on Saturday. :( Still, I should get a good OC out of it. *sigh* maybe in a few months I will do the Q6600 and try and make a few bux back on the E6420.

Right now, the Athlon 64 x2 6000+ is down to $170 on Newegg, and the x2 5600+ is $150, and the fairly cool x2 5000+ Brisbane for $120 so AMD still has some pretty good chips to compete on the lower end of things. Still, hopefully Phenom is a success, I really don't want to Intel to push AMD out of the market.

A 3ghz dual-core CPU with a 65W TDP is damned sexy, but I'm gonna wait for the Penryn version before upgrading my E6300.
I'd love to see a benchmark between the mobile extreme cpu running on a 'mobile on the desktop' mobo against the regular chips. Am I the only one who wonders what a *true* mobile on the desktop machine could do? One of those CPUs with a mobile-class GPU-based card. Yeah, good horsepower with reasonable power consumption. It's hot lately and I have no A/C, ya dig?! |

This is like a "curb stomp" in Gears of War.
Intel walks over to AMD which is on its hands and knees bleeding almost dead. Intel lifts up its leg high and slams it down upon the skull of AMD!!:) Dam those are some cheap CPU's. $266 for a 3.0ghz that was once $1000? |

At $266 the Q6600 is looking mighty damn fine indeed. Then again a dual-core at 3GHz for same price ain't too bad neither. Decisions, decisions:-)...

Poor poor AMD
BUT this reminds me very very much of the Duron and Thunderbird 1333mhz days! - the AMD was about 10% slower than the intel P4's (yeah northwood is in-efficient but at the time clocked higher and faster overall) A lot of us tightasss got the ECS K7S5A and a Duron or T-Bird DIRT CHEAP for 1/3 the cost of an intel CPU and board. It's a hard decision because I want those awesome intel speeds but good LORD is AMD cheap right now - no matter how you slice it, for anyone poor an AMD system represents excellent value, specially considering AMD boards are cheaper than intel too (mostly) |

Ok ok, great news. Now what about the Q6600? This is the real deal, not those other overpriced quad core solutions.

dang... AMD got owned once again.
and as soon as TR comes out with a review of the E21x0, AMD's BE attempt will probably get owned as well. |

Bring on the Q6600 might not be any faster than my E6400 that runs at 3.2 ghz but it will give my epenis a HUGE boost

If intel does make the Q6600 $266 soon, i may be selling som old parts!
Folks from Nvidia have been hiding in the bushes outside of my window for most of the past week, periodically whispering that their nForce 600i-series chipsets were designed to support 1333MHz bus speeds. They say boards based on their own nForce 680i reference design are only a BIOS flash away from glory. I say they need to get out of the bushes. Classic! |
