I've been waiting for this sort of review... I did mod my X-fi with higher quality opamps... No way to compare though without buying the Xonar myself.
How to hotrod x-fi if you don't already know http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=229350 |

I love it when audiophiles get all worked up. Grab the popcorn, cause they can hear the corn go down my throat!

Fantastic setup for audio: let's take some mini-monitors, back 'em up to a wall, set 'em on a hard, smooth, reflective surface, and then try to listen for subtle variations in source quality.
Watching people do bad audio reviews really gets under my skin. |

I'll wait 'til Damage & Diss have their way with this card; for now it's top of my list to replace my sainted TBSC when my new build moves from XP to Vista.

I want to see Auzentech's X-fi card tested. Will it be worth it over modding an X-fi? Will their drivers and software be better? I'm sure TR will put that one up on the bench.

so, long story short, i agree with most other people on here and will wait for TR to maybe do an ACTUAL review... you know, one you can trust that involves blind testing and actual numbers.

Such a useless test - no actual objective numbers but a bunch of subjective descriptions such as something being "flat" or "recessed" or "narrow" or "muffled" or <insert random adjective here>.

I'd trust a THG review ahead of a VR-Zone review. I'll wait for a trustworthy reviewer to take a look.
#1, yeah, opamp and cap mods on Creative cards do wonders. It's amazing how CL does such nice PCB designs and then ruins them with sub-par parts! |

hmm, well in my experience, the Elite Pros aren't that bad. I would have to rate my cards (with a c-moy+senn 650) Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 Hifi (with virtually 0 driver support, btw :( ) > X-Fi elite pro > Audigy 4 pro > Prodigy 7.1 (well just about any decent envy 24HT card) > X-meridian (standard opamps) > other Audigy2/4 series > Audigy1 series = SB Live series > cheap CMI based card (MadDog something or other) > anything onboard
I have to question any review that claims onboard sound is as good as or better than a discrete card. edit: btw anyone looking for vista drivers for the hifi http://www.dbsys.de/audiotrak_treiberarchiv.html |

It *seems* that this card's drivers are not Creative (well at least the control panels aren't). If that's the case, does anyone know if it supports EAX 4/5?

I guess the best way to test one sound card against a series of sound cards is to have a double-blind test.

That was the worst review I have ever seen. I'm disgusted. Why is this in the news section? They don't show the settings they use. They don't explain anything about the cards.
I really have no clue, I gotta watch their crappy ass videos to figure it out which is in three parts and is downloading at abysmal rates. |

Yup; This one is for the UK and Europe, i don't know if they will ship for other continents. The card sells at £129,24 inc. Vat.
