My HTC TyTn kills the battery whenever i talk while being in a UMTS cell. It also gets very warm to the touch if i talk for a long time in UMTS.. Looks like Jobs or whoever took the decision to stick with EDGE, took the right one.

I can state from my experience using an 8525 that 3G kills my battery time whether browsing, email, or IM. It made sense to me that if they wanted decent battery life they would stay 2.5G with edge.

If the iPhone had the same option, then there would be absolutely no downside to allowing 3G access.
The fact is, power consumption is not a real justification for not including 3G on the iPhone. Jobs and Apple screwed up; plain and simple.
