Every time news is posted about the 8800 series having yet more new problems, I feel better and better about having missed the boat and gotten 'stuck with' my 7950GX2. Nobody thought it would be a good idea, but it's served me very well.

Doesn't this info make the 2900xt with the 1mb of gdr4 more appealing?

#3, I'm with you on this. It seems like the graphics card companies always say "oh the applications aren't doing this correctly and we have to work around it".

Come on!

If that were the case, then the Radeons would have to suffer the same problem. But such is apparently not the case.

As an Nvidia fanboy with a 2900XT. I don't feel as ashamed for getting this Chinese Communist Canadian red video card anymore. I figured it had to have more long term potential than an 8800GTS. Image quality in video isn't as good as my old 7900GT but its negligible. It'll make a good card to hold me over until the Nvidia 8900 or 9000 series cards come out.

Interestingly though, a couple of days ago we found out that some ATI 2600/2400's have a BIOS issue that kills performance as well. I can't wait to see how all of these Nvidia and ATI cards will perform when all the fixes are done. Unfortunately the next gen hardware probably be right around the corner by then.

That line "Nvidia also says the problem is more complex than it originally thought" translates to me as "we have a hardware problem and we have to find a work around". I don't think this is just a driver issue but a design issue that nVidia is going to have to kludge something together to overcome.

I find it interesting that by prioritizing the DX9 release they are basically tacitly admitting what most enthusiasts have known all along: the DX10 feature compatibility is basically just the "biggest checkbox" on the list that marketing uses. It's not particularly meaningful in practice.

So far, I see no reason to buy new hardware products. They all have serious problems that get worked out half a year later.

I don't need the headaches.
