It is an irresponsible and corrupt idea anyway. It's like a city deciding to provide taxpayer-funded telephone service or something. The dead hand of government does not belong in a for-profit business. Stealing competitors' money to fund their scheme is also quite unjust.

I've been reading arguments that SF County should lay it's own fiber whens it rebuilds the utilities under the streets and skip Wi-Fi.
