chump change for apple, theyre just doing whatever makes them look better... they will still make an assload of cash either way

I'm 90% cynic and try to look at this and see the bright side, but really it just seems like a dangerous precedent being made for a little short term benefit to a small group of early adopter whiners... i hope it doesnt deter apple from making such large price cuts in the future

Jobs just offered 100$ off on a purchase that users never looked back upon and you decide to bitch about it ??

I'm not bitching--I'm not nearly stupid or vain enough to spend $600 on a phone to enhance my social status because I don't spend my days masturbating to a poster of Jobs a la the RDF-afflicted masses.

This is practically useless for the poor buyers. I would feel quite bitter over a $100 store credit, most people don't like being ripped off and just want their money back (all $200 + tax).

To disappointed users, he says, "There is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane."

No, it's life in Apple's RDF, where you never know what's around the corner and it's meticulously planned that way to extract maximum corporate benefit from Macolytes and their ilk. It's another example of their culture of misplaced elitism.

Say what you want about Intel's, DAAMIT's, Nvidia's or M$'s practices, but at least you know what's coming before it hits you. You know--that whole roadmap thing?

...not forgetting the hefty mark-up apples products get anyway, their $100 token gesture will probably only cost them about $20

Let the whine fest continue. I see this in all technology, people whine when new cameras come out that are better and cheaper than the one they bought last month. I don't see Canon giving them compensation.

Interesting that from what I have seen on this forum, 99% of the whiners aren't the ones who "suffered" the price drop. So they should be cheering the price drop. But I guess it is just their deep heartfelt concern for iPhone users...

I don't see what there is to complain about. You put out a product at the highest price you think the market will bear... When the market will no longer bear that price you lower it. Simple economics. Though it was a pretty drastic price cut.

You always pay for new tech... Thats the way it is.

What can you buy for $100 at an Apple store? Not much I would guess. Now if it will be good at iTunes as well. That would be a good thing.

I'm sure the apple haters and the apple whiners will find a reason to complain about this, but it seems to me that Jobs is going above and beyond what could be expected.

I'm kinda touched that Steve Jobs is responding like this. I don't think I've ever heard of any other company doing something like this. I guess it's things like this that gives Apple such rabbid fanboys/girls loyal customers. Kudos Mr. Jobs.

At face value perhaps. Realistically many people are still within the 30 day return window and we would likely see an influx of returns to Apple and people re-buying a new iPhone days later at the cheaper price. Might still see this.

Still, in store credit is largely a joke unless you want to buy accessories. Apple only carries Apple accessories as well so $100 isnt going to get you much.

Seems to be like a half baked idea to stem the tide of complaints and returns.
