HTC makes some of the ugliest phones I have ever seen. If there's a slide out keyboard or stylus, absolutely forget it, we want slim phones with trackballs or touch screens (next gen HTC products support this though, but they're not coming that soon).
Qualcomm's latest dual processor 3G chipset provides a Linux OS. Google will build the app layer on top of that, this is where they'll have to differentiate themselves from all the other vendors that are using this chipset. It doesn't sound like they'll be able to release this product this year whether it's EDGE or UMTS. It doesn't even sound like they settled on the chipset if they still haven't selected the hardware manufacturer! I wonder how long they've been scheming all this. Also I'll say that their browser render times will be slower than Apple's/RIM's EDGE phones. EDGE networks have less channel setup time compared to UMTS networks. From real-life tests, the UMTS networks today offer low modulation/coding schemes and ramp up (so they don't use up all the channels [spreading codes] right away in order to maintain network capacity to serve other users). By the time the network has completed connection setup and is offering the higher modulation schemes, the transfer on the EDGE network will most probably be done. UMTS is really only more efficient when the amount of data is large (I can't recall the file size, a few 100kB, the UMTS networks are that bad). All your browser GETs/POSTs and all their replies come with their own connection setup time. This is bad for image heavy pages or pages with a lot of resources (most pages on the "real" internet, not mobile version internet, are like this), and most file sizes on web pages are small so the fatter pipe of UMTS has no meaningful benefit. They should stick with EDGE and move to HSDPA or WiMax when it comes out. |

They haven't settled on the OS, the hardware, or the carrier, but they could bring it out this year? Yeah, right.
I think it would be a mistake for google to get into the hardware business. A much better use of their time and resources would be to figure out a way to attach advertising to digital music and video in a way that doesn't pi$$ everybody off. It would be a shame if they failed to solve that major issue because they were dinking around with a phone. |

So if the iPhone was the "Jesus Phone" does that make the google phone the "God Phone"?

If this continually pounded again and again rumor is true, I'm all for it. I like them much more so than Apple or MS. The OS I run becomes less important over time than the accessibility/ease of access and reliability to my data. So far Google has that much more aligned than the other two.
Please keep posting rumors, keeps us all informed--- or not. |

If there is a Gphone it would have all the features of iphone because since google bought out youtube they could put it on their phones easily, and could easily contract creative or something for audio playback of music then add 3g on there iphone woulod have no chance.
and prolly make it CDMA for the verizon/sprint users make competition pretty. *heres to hoping* Oh #2 if there is a GoOS google would be the default browser:) |

If they're talking about using a Qualcomm 3G chipset, we might not even be talking about technologies in the GSM suite. We might be talking about a CDMA2000/EvDO phone.
