Does AMD NOT realize they have the rest of the numeric system to play with? I mean 21xx, 22xx, 23xx, 25xx, 27xx and 28xx still haven't been used. Maybe if they started their first gen cards at 2700, then they'd have room for 2nd and 3rd refreshes.
And there is nothing wrong with suffixes, if you keep them consistent, and simple. I think the best example of naming is the 9700/9800 days. You had the 9700, 9700 Pro. This was simple. Then ATI refreshed the line, they had 9800, 9800 Pro and 9800 XT. Simple, and elegant. This new numbering scheme is just ridiculousness. |

so the R700 series will be the HD 4xxx? or will they just get slotted in later in the 3xxx range?
i can't imagine the R670 would be big enough to cover many cards to fill the 3xxx model numbers. |

More interesting yet, VR-Zone reports that AMD has decided to do away with its product names' two- and three-letter suffices, such as XTX, XT, GT, and Pro.
I applaud this move. Bravo. |

I understand perfectly well why they want to get rid of the 29xx-moniker. However, I have doubts that the new revision warants the generation leap implied in the name.
