A 13" ultraportable?
Does not compute.

I want another 12" Mac laptop, dammit.

13" with an SSD makes sense, but the lack of a DVD doesn't. If they can fit a 2.5" form factor SSD, they can fit a DVD in it. I just don't see this happening.

blablabla...MacRumor...blablabla...hihihi

For real, the whole MacGuess game reminds me of the stupid side of Kindergarten. Why is it so damn difficult for Apple to say: folks, we're going to introduce a 13"SmallMacNice in january, these are the specs, those who think about bying a small and light laptop might want to hold off 'till then.

Steve Jobs is a dramaqueen.

{looks at my 13.3" Macbook}

How much smaller can this really be than the existing Macbook?

Ah, some competition for the Thinkpad X61. Dual-booting on a Mac ultraportable is enticing. We'll have to see how it compares.

This rumor has been floating around for a while. 13" makes lots of sense. Anything else is too small for a full size keyboard and 720p wide screen. The optical drive omission is mildly annoying, but hardly a deal breaker. Other companies have done it before. If the battery life is excellent, I could see this finding a home in my stable. My 15" Powerbook is just large/heavy enough to be a pain when traveling and I need to make the switch to an Intel machine next year anyway.

No optical drive? Sony and Fujitsu have shown how they can cram dvd-rw drives into even the most anorexic chassis (look at the sub-2 lb Vaio G1 for instance).

Unlike with the Thinkpad X61, Apple's target market are unlikely to spend their computing time (and working day) walking around the office intranet. Losing the optical drive is a bad idea.
