This is a pretty good deal for the average user. However, I would much prefer a gently used IBM Thinkpad for the same money. They're much better in quality than pos Dell.

Asustek's Eee PC should be $200. Besides Dell's $400 deal, you can get $500 laptops from newegg any day of the week which makes a $400 Eee PC seem ridiculous.

If you're willing to spend a couple of hundred more and deal with WalMart on black friday, you can get a Dell 1501:
http://bfads.net/Dell-l1501PH003W-at-WalMart Turion X2, 2GB, Vista Home Premium, $598 (At Dell.com without coupons I can't configure that system with 2GB and a DVD writer for less than $714) |

In my country Dell is selling almost the same notebook (they don't offer the DVD burner as an option, just a 24X CD/DVD combo drive) for $ 3,604.30 (ARG pesos) == $ 1,144.22 USD (US dollars). O_o

Wow...I feel out of touch with those prices...that sounds like a crazy good deal. Its very tempting...last time I bought a laptop I paid nearly 1000 bucks for 512 ram, and a 2200 Athlon XP-M with only a cd burner and a 60 gig drive. Oh...and it has wonderful SiS integrated graphics.

That sounds like a great deal to me. If I was in the market for a laptop, Dell would get my money.

Yep, we need to get out of Latin America to get decent prices :(
#21,
Obviously, you don't understand anything about mobility.
If you want "true" mobility, you should look for:
- A expensive (north of $2,000) ultraportable laptop from Fujitsu-Siemens, Sony, etc.
- The ASUS Eee PC at $400 which performs surprisingly good despite its modest hardware.
