I don't know what Blizzard gets out of this deal. Seems like they have more money than Activision, so...

It could mean better porting of good PC games and good console games between them.

But honestly, I've never played a PC game on a console that was better to play on the console. The only console games I think are much better on a console are strict RPG/adventure games and racing games.

But, there is still a lot of room in my mind for cross-platform RPG games.

I don't think that Vivendi has anything to offer other than Blizzard. There hasn't been a Tribes game in a while and the last Empire Earth game was horrible. Maybe Vivendi was having problems so they wanted to merge to cut their losses.

Well, I guess it must be A Good Thing because the evil Borg empire EA is not involved. I guess I should be happy?

Bought activision in 1998 for $3000. Just checked and it's worth $41,000 now. I don't know much about investing, that is good, right?

- Vivendi is the acquiring corporation. Despite the name change (which is smart based on the strengths and recognition of the various parts) it is clear from the structure of the deal that Vivendi is buying Activision. It's not a question of what Vivendi offers Activision, it's what Activision offered Vivendi. Which was a chance to get bigger (the thinking goes that larger companies with a broader portfolio of titles see a smoother revenue and profit profile because there's always another "hit" on the way).

- Blizzard isn't geting acquired. It already was acquired, by Vivendi, back in '98 (and several times before that). Since Blizzard's parent isn't changing, there's no reason to automatically assume Blizzard's situation will change. Of course, corporate restructuring, "synergies," and "cost consolidation" are always a threat. Activision Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Kotick said he expected $50 million to $100 million in cost synergies. (Skeptical eye motions are appropriate here.)

- EA may feel compelled to respond to this threat to their corporate penis, perhaps by buying Ubisoft. At least, that seems to be the speculation that's driving up Ubisoft's share price.

Let's get the names rolling:
- Call of Warcraft
- Guitarcraft
- World of Duty
- World of Tony Hawk MMOTHG (massive multiplayer online tony hawk game)

Yes, these are pathetic, but get your morning arses in gear and get some good replies in.

Oh great, I hope this doesn't mean that Diablo 3 (when it finally does come out) will be online only. I really value the single player experience.

If Blizzard isn't going to change anything, what good are they to this merger? Besides lending their name, there's not much Vivendi is offering here...
