Hmmm, should drive down the prices of the 8800 GS into realm of afford-ability for me! Now I wont need to go for the 8600 series perhaps. I will have to wait and see... though waiting is my only option right now.

So its the ATI 4600 vs. the Nvidia 9800 shootout?
You want image quality how about turning on AA/AF and putting graphics settings to high? |

Too many "mainstream" 8800 parts from Nvidia, dammit. 8800GT 512MB, 8800GT 256MB, 8800GTS 512MB, 8800GTS 640MB, 8800GS 384MB, 8800GS 768MB...
I get the feeling that this latest "GS" iteration was created JUST to hit the exact same price point as the AMD 3850/3870. That's not really a great way to define your product line, just a great way to kick your competitor while they're down. Heh. Oh well, I'm sure it'll sell. This ongoing game of SKU chess just seems to be getting kind of ridiculous to me. |

I want to know more about this 9600, why so few processors?
Is it just that well designed it's still going to kick ass? Will it beat an 8800GTS 512 or 8800 Ultra? How much will it cost, where is it's 'big daddy' etc etc |

In addition to the 8800 GS, Expreview says Nvidia has a "GeForce 9600 GT" scheduled for a launch on February 14. The Chinese site claims Nvidia plans to stray from the custom of introducing the high-end member of a new product line first by launching the GeForce 9600 GT before other GeForce 9-series cards. The 9600 GT is alleged to feature 64 stream processors, a 500MHz core clock speed, and 512MB of 1000MHz memory hooked up to a 256-bit memory bus.
If true, it means that Nvidia is damm confident that AMD will not be able to catch up anytime soon. "8900GTX" is officially vaporware. |

This brings back the golden memories of the ATI 9800/9600 series. I loved my 9800pro and kept it for a long time. My current 8800GT should be able to hang around for at least a year, I hope.

Sure, why should nVidia release something like a 9600 GTX or 9800 when they know they can release a slower card that will still be sold out in most places initially and thereafter unavailable for anything less than $100-$200 over MSRP for many months?
