a few years ago the 2.5 standard was 12.5mm i think ibm was the 1st to go with the newer NOW STANDARD 9.5mm drive

hitachi stop wasting EVERYONES damn time, just stop and scrap this and the dopey press release.

I thought 12.5mm was a "standard" for 2.5" drives too.

I wonder if it would fit in my Mac Book Pro... I have ordered a Seagate 200GB 7200RPM in middle of November and it has YET to ship from NCIX.com ! Argh, might as well cancel that order and get this nice 500GB drive instead. For this much space, i can deal with the lack in RPM speed..

So this has no impact on the general upgrade market...unless you want to put it in a desktop, or make it e-SATA.
