me thinks the phenom black will be a worthy upgrade if you can find one. problem is, you get a q6600 for about fitty bucks more than the deal above.

I'm very happy with my 9500, much quicker then my x2 5600+. Especialy in anything to do with video, Adobe, AutoCAD, and not to mention those large Supreme Commander maps.

Cyril, the review you linked for the hard disk refers to the previous-generation WD5000KS, while the drive you've linked is the newer WD5000AA KS, which is the same generation as the 750GB drive Dissonance reviewed.

So the linked drive's performance is even higher than the drive reviewed in your link, and similar to the drive reviewed in my link above.

I live in India, and here I got a full five-year warranty on the WD5000AAKS I bought in August.

How about CPU upgrades that do not involve new motherboards for those of us running Intel processors?

Phenom might be the most "affordable" but that doesn't necessarily make it a good buy.

The lower capacity SE16's don't seem like a bad deal either, except compared to the 500GB on a pennies per gig basis. $50 for 160GB isn't bad for someone looking for something low capacity in order to save money (if one can stand the measly 8MB cache).

The 500GB SE16 is $99.99 at Newegg too, if anyone has a preference.

I am definitely looking at picking up that 500GB drive. My 160GB is damn near full and I could really use a new one. You damn sure can't beat the price with free shipping.

I have a 500GB 7200.11 and it's really quite quiet. On the other hand my 500GB RE16 is a vibration disaster.

The price/GB for HDs just keeps amazing me. But really, 500GB is too much for a lot my uses (I'd rather run multiple smaller drives than one big one for many scenarios -- and no, I'm not talking about RAID). Unfortunately, the prices don't scale down. It would be great if you could find, say, a 125GB performance drive for $25 (new).

Just make absolutely sure your motherboard has a BIOS update to support the Phenom (and, ideally, verify that someone else has already attempted it with success). People have been reporting mixed results going the upgrade route.

Hard drive prices are pretty strange. 500 gigs for 100 bucks. A 40 gig drive will set you back 50
