I didn't think it'd be coming out so soon. Hopefully this will force Microsoft to put some spit and polish on Vista in the meantime.

With SP3 coming "Real Soon Now" for XP, I can wait a few more years before "up"grading my OS.

And nothing bad was ever said about Windows XP? HA! I don't care what OS you are, what company it's from, any new OS will get slammed until it's "completely" ridded of bugs, security issues, and there are available drivers for at LEAST 95% of hardware out there.
Remember, all the same exact stuff was said about Windows XP when it came out. You might as well copy/pasted all the forums about XP and just change the title to Vista; I guarantee you'll see the same stuff about "Windows 7." Again if you want to see the future, Copy/Paste all current forums/posts/topics of Windows Vista, and you'll see exactly what Windows 7's issues will be. (Give or take a few issues). |

You were expecting something else from the doom-and-gloom, Microsoft-is-dying-a-cancerous-death, Linux ueber Alles, Stevie Nichols? I know Vista's had bad press because of all the reasons Krogoth outlined, but this guy masturbates to a penguin poster in his mom's basement. His "articles" should be labeled as opinions. Furthermore, where does this incessant need to produce new OSes every 18 or 36 months come from? Where is the consumer demand--at any level--for this type of product churn? Frankly, I was very happy with the run XP has had (and continues to have in many environments). I don't think five years is an unreasonable lifespan for an OS, and I don't want M$ to take on Apple's $129 Service Packs business model. |

;o0 Come on really, what did you expect them to say? They don't want to hurt Vista uptake, it may be cool to bash Vista but people do have a point, it isn't a good OS by a long shot. If you're buying a new PC or running Win9x/ME then Vista can make sense but for the vast majority on 2000/XP there's no reason at all to upgrade. Let the driver base mature and use the next version of Windows, if that means waiting until 2011 that's fine but I doubt it really will myself.

As long as all the programs/games I want to run on my comp work fine in XP they can take till 2050 to release something new for all I care.

"We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately 3 years to develop. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release."
What they fail to mention is that the planning stages began back in 2006... |

That's an indirect and purely relative statement, 'take 3 years to develop'.
Who says they didn't start two years ago? 'Planning stages' means little, if they really are basing it on parts of Vista itself, they can be planning through the entire process of development. |

We'll see a refresh of Vista before Windows 7, lets be honest. Microsoft took the NT5 kernel and turned out several releases: Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.
Kernels and driver models take a LOOONG time to test and develop for -- MS wouldn't want to toss out how much it learned and gained with Vista so ... quickly (for financial reasons). Windows 2008 server is already benefiting from the Vista kernel, so we'd really see one more refresh before a potential suitor to Vista's NT6 kernel. |

I call BS on this whole Windows 7 release rumor crap.
What the next client/home version of windows will look like may be in planning, but it's not the only Windows 7. People are very confused about what Windows 7 is. Windows 7 is also the project developing the next kernel and core OS parts, and its development is already underway. Hell, it's already been demo'ed. Microsoft has commented that they want to expedite the release cycle of their OS products and they're starting that trend with the server side of things i'm sure. But whoever came up with the 2009 crap is bonkers. I still see 2010 as the earliest anything including Windows 7 tech will be RTM'ed. |
