You know what the biggest shame is?

That Lenovo does take the ThinkPad 701c design - the "Butterfly", as it was called - and update it with more modern components.

It would be a TREMENDOUS hit all over again. It is exactly what people [still!] want - a small, very well built computer with a large keyboard.

Lenovo - are you listening???

This thing is a scorching white-hot kind of awesome. Kinda glad I didn't get an eee, because if this thing comes out soon and is in the eee price range, I'd be stoked.

Once it becomes available, I give it 1 hour tops before somebody finds a way to "tamper" with it. And that includes the time spent unpacking it and fiddling with the functionality.

No visible screws to me means snap-together, like a remote control. High-qualitay.

1280x800 is pretty god-damned high-density pixels. My 15.4 inch is that resolution and is at the limits of acceptability for me. Hope none of your applications have non-scaling icons.

i'm sure one of the biggest things keeping the eee's costs down was the NiMH battery. i doubt HP would really be able to compete with the eee (in price, anyway) if it used Li-ion.

Looking at the pictures, i was about to comment how horribly thick it looks... but then i noticed it's barely thicker than the rj45 jack on the side. It being so stubby makes it look thicker than it really is.

include built-in bluetooth that can work with a small wireless mouse and you have a very slick little device.

Edit: include a swivel touch display and you have something that would be incredibly hard not to buy.

I want one, badly. I would like to know the processor/ram/chipset specs though. I hope they can keep the price low enough for starving students ;).

I wonder why they went for such a high resolution? With windows might need need to use scaled fonts (ugh!).
1024x600 on a 8" LCD expected for the gen 2 Eee sounds like a better choice.
But in the end competition is good :)

Depending on the cost I might pick one of them up. I love my EEE the only real gripe I have is the low res screen.

I would love to have one of these, but I would bet that the price will be pretty expensive considering it would be a novelty item for me.
