Well so much for ATI's 3870 X2. A pair of 8800GTs beat it and that is essentially what this single card is.

ATI really needs to get their crap together and get a better GPU. They don't have to beat them but at least be more competitive.

So do two of these constitute quad-SLI or is it still considered just two-way SLI?

I don't understand why someone would buy one of these. It seems to me that an 8800 GTS SLI can already max everything out (except Crysis) and this is basically just that, except more expensive. Even if you had the money to burn, the driver support for this kind of product will probably be about as poor as the 7xxx series GX2.

The new full-coverage square shrouds are a step back in utility imo even though they look nice when the card is sitting on a melamine white background for glamor shots. They take up excess space around the already-long cards at the end of the primary PCIe 16x slot. On the P5K Premium an 8800GTX stock cooler did not block any SATA ports using both regular and 90 degree cables although it was tight, both the g92 8800GT and GTS stock coolers block either the first or first and second rows of SATA ports so you can only use 1 90-degree plug in the blocked row(s.) Sure the board layout should be better but the only difference in the coolers is the stupid square shroud going to the end of the card.

Don't tell me this is the extent of the Geforce 9x series... I was actually expecting some new cores to come out!

The size of these cards is getting rediculous.

Pretty soon AMD/nVidia will have to set up a rebate system with your local elctricity supplier to turn off computers at night or only use them after peak hours.

No DisplayPort? For a card that expensive, I'd want something that I was sure could interface with tomorrow's monitors.

Why have one when you can have one too many?

Lex is right, this is getting a bit ridiculous. As in 3Dfx the-old-voodoo-board-of-death ridiculous. Plus, what's the use of these ? To play 1 good game a year ? Thanks, I'll pass, I prefer something that doesn't make me feel like I'm standing on an airfield, both draught-wise and sound-wise :)

Does anyone else get the feeling that Nvidia is trying to make a dual PCB creature look a little more... monolithic?

What no 3-way/6-way SLI? My capacity for excess is far from sated.

I own a 7950GX2 and am not sure what to think about this new card. I had to wait for several games to get drivers worked out before my card would run them properly, but when it did, it was one fast card.

To me ATI's solution is more elegant and better designed. I'm anxious to see if the ATI design is superior and if that makes for a close FPS race.

I absolutely love the square looks, it feels retro but cool.
No, I am dead serious.
