I suspect you can install Ubuntu if that is what you want. WinXP will probably install. Vista on the other hand...

Yeah, let's dump apt-get and dpkg, which are used on some of the longest running and best liked distros, and choose some no-name distro because it uses xdelta packages.

I smell BS.

The specs look intriguing for a 200$ complete machine, though. Could afford to buy two and stack them, for some nice redundant low-cost home server action, and small size for bonus FTWs.

I've always be interested in Foresight/rPath's Conary, but the only time I've really ever used Foresight was a live CD to check out a new Gnome version (Foresight tends to be the first to release with a new Gnome).

Despite my very short time with it, I liked it's cleanness as opposed to Ubuntu, but I tend to like Vector/Slackware/Arch type distros.

Above is a potential explanation why Foresight matters ;)

I'm not a linux guru, but that sounds like BS. I don't remember long update times ever being an issue in Ubuntu. I am happy to avoid all aspects of 'dependency hell'.

I'm guessing it was a political decision.

That is one thing that does bother me about the apt-get method of package management though...

I guess the rsync algorithm hadn't been developed yet?

Yeah but then you have to, you know, build it yourself, and worry about compatibility issues between cheap parts, and the noise of an inexpensive case. This sounds like a pretty good deal to me, you can't save a whole lot doing it yourself, and it looks nice.

I think you can build a pc with better specs for the same , if you buy and plug each part yourself to a cheap pc case...
