Yup, look at any real-world benchmarks with SSD's.. While the random seek times are phenomenal, they still pretty much suck, because the sequential read speed is average, and write speed blows. Access time plays only a minor part in the performance of disk-drives when it comes to regular every-day computing.

Does the idea of keeping 500 gigs of data on a laptop seem crazy to anyone else? Theft for one, loss for another would make it a liability. At least make sure to have an external drive to back up to.

Only on sequential reads. Otherwise, seek times with random I/O will kill it.

Gah... need 7200RPM please.

After moving my lappy from 4800rpm to 7200rpm the difference was so noticeable that I will not even consider anything slower than a 7200rpm drive from now on.
