In perfectland, apple would then release ipods with this tax as optional, so if you only rip music from cds or don't care for itunes you pay only for the ipod, but it will probably never happen.

Well, given that I've spent probably 4 or 5 times that on music downloads, I'd say hell yes if they can do it w/out DRM.

If paying $100 extra for an iPod would mean all the free downloads I can get my hands on, then I wouldn't mind coughing it up. In fact, I cheer it on.

Interesting deal, especially if people can break the lock on the files such that they're free for all time. Though very little of the music I listen to is available on iTunes... If more was available I'd definitely consider it.
Until then, piracy with no $100 premium for me. |
