a point of discussion has been the included battery. it seems they shrank the capacity on it compared to the older models

If I read this right, the Linux model will have 8GB more storage for the same price? Seems like a no-brainer to me..

Im sure its already in the works, but TR needs to do a mini notebook roundup and compare the Eee 900, the HP 2133 and all the rest so I can know which one to buy.

Yes! i want one of these babies bad. Anyone got any ideas on how well they run word/excel spreadsheets? Perfect timing for my final year design project at uni.

want.
Does the installed distro do Wine? Old games like Fallout or Baldur's gate would run fine on this thing. |

Battery sizing is related to a battery plant fire that is causing shortages for not just the EEE. The 4400mah battery bundled with early models was from the EEE 2G. The 5800mah battery has been reported to come with recent units purchased in Taiwan. Still a bit of a gamble. Early buyers in HK and Singapore will apparently be able to RMA for the 5800mah battery with Asus, but the offer has not yet been extended to UK buyers.
You can buy batteries from the 701/702 models online as well as aftermarket versions with increased capacities.
