My brother is considering buying a X4 for his next rig. He wants quad only and the platform for mobo/cpu is a little cheaper if he goes X4 over C2Q.

The "savings" made on the platform is better spent on an 8800GT and I'm inclined to agree.

It seems AMD keeps focus in (business) OEM markets and not even bother with high-end models. Guess that makes sense considering current Core2 euphoria.

The more Phenoms the better. They are proving to be quite popular (in my geo anyway). Excellent on Unreal 3 based titles, solid on video encoding, overclocks nicely too.

Do they expect anyone to buy those tri-cores? I mean, they really really seem like a novelty CPU at best. They don't even seem to be clocked higher than their quad counterparts. But maybe I'm wrong.

what ever happened to the dual cores they were supposed to release? The X2's getting a little long in the tooth

"AMD will follow up in the first quarter of 2009 with more 45nm Phenoms, this time clocked between 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz." Maybe dual die's on the package?

AMD is getting better with HYBRID design. I think they focus on it up to the processor level.

Looks like the Same Ole Stuff to me. The only thing being tweaked is their manufacturing costs = same product for same price @ lower production costs.
This should translate for higher profit margins for AMD and the same (or slightly lower) functionality for users.
Hopefully it will allow AMD to hang in the market for another year or two IF they can manage to lower their operating costs.
