Oh good Lord. Core? They couldn't come up with something better than ripping off Intel's branding? (Yes it was just as bad when AMD named the Athlon XP. And worse when everything is named eXtreme.) Obviously they can't get into trouble for it but really, "Core" is stretching a bit.

I am picking up the 32GB one asap. Should be plenty of space since my XP app and boot disk is only 20GB with around 9GB free.

I think that $200 for a 60+gb is where my biting point would be. You don't really need more than that in a laptop, especially an ultra-portable. 30gb is a little small though, especially with Vista and future OS's, while 60 provides extra space for a VM or 2 should you want it.

120-143Mbs/ 80-93Mbs read/write speeds and seek times of less than 0.35ms
They've revised their quote. It's far less clear now. Sorry for the understanding. If these are available in PATA interfaces, it might be entertaining to drop one into one the of X41 Tablets I have here. Getting 40-80GB disks for them (non-standard 2.5", same width, less depth) has gotten expensive enough that I'm not refurbing more right now. They get great battery life and have few moving parts already, one of these could really put them on another level. Not to mention the funky 4200rpm 2.5" drives are slower than anything and drag the system performance way way down. OCZ! Make one model at least that's normal 2.5" width but shorter depth! The X41t begs for it! |

Jeepers... those numbers are really getting down. 64GB for $259 is very attractive for a boot drive, but I'd have to see some sexy multi-colored graphs to show they're significantly faster than a Velociraptor to seal the deal.

When I next upgrade my computer I may get an SSD for my OS drive. It's about at the price I would consider getting one now.

32 gig is fine, but i won't buy it until it gets to $80 or less and has all the bugs worked out. Probably December the price will drop.

Hmmm... I reckon the right size for me is ~40 GB. That's plenty to load on any linux distro and a shedload of apps.

These must be MLC based, which is fine with wear-leveling and keeps price/GB dropping although I'm sure someone will object to MLC. I like the trend of rapidly decreasing cost/GB once they hit ~$1.50/GB for 32 or 64 GB models I'll bite.
I understand why the manufacturers are still pushing 2.5" because these are still mroe likely to be targeted at laptops but when are we going to see 3.5" versions? Mounting adaptors could be used but shouldn't be necessary. Seems like there might be some savings there by being able to use a greater number of lower density chips. |

Hum.. I wonder why they only are going to cover them with a 2 year warranty. You'd think something like this would come at least with a 5 year warranty.

I payed off my Newegg account today so I think its almost time to build a new rig. I'll hold out until Nehalem and the 45nm K10.5s for now but HDD/SSDs and GPUs are fair game for now. A 64gb SSD and 4870 sound good right about now.
