Mini-Review:

I purchased the same bag as in this review from Geoff. However, mine cost $20 more, and I got it in Beige. It arrived on the 15th of July, which makes for a total order-to-arrival time of 12 days using DHL. It may have taken an extra day or two to arrive at my house since, on the side of the box, someone had drawn directions on how to get to my home.

The box was seriously damaged, with the compressed plastic bag inside torn. Thus, the sumo had partially expanded out of the top of the box, completely filling the cardboard shipping container. I had to cut the box open to remove the contents: one partially compressed foam-filled bag (the sumo), and one cover for said bag (what I call the mawashi).

Luckily, the primary bag was not damaged; however, if I wanted to return the product, sumolounge's website states that I should use the original packaging... but that no longer exists.

As soon as the bag was out of the box, I had to put the mawashi on it - it was already starting to expand. That was a promising sign. I left it to inflate overnight.

The result was something as big as half a couch. Since then, it's compressed a little, and it's now down to about 1/3 of a couch. ;)

It's extremely comfortable, especially for long-term use. I sat in it for ~10 hours yesterday, using a laptop for ~9 hours of that time. There were no issues between the sumo and my elbows. Also, it's very breathable; sitting against a leather chair or couch for that long can lead to a sticky film of sweat forming between me and the leather surface. No such thing happened with the SumoSac.

As for the downsides... as mentioned before, once the bag fully expands, it's hard to manage it down hallways and through doors - expect to do a lot of pushing or pulling. With the expanded size in mind, I'm not sure how one would manage to ship the product back to sumolounge if they were not pleased with it. Also, I think sumolounge should sell separate mawashi, so that their customers could change out the color of the bag once in a while. Finally, I've not been able to find any cleaning instructions either with the shipped product, or on their website.

In all, I'd say that the SumoSac is a nice piece of young-adult furniture. I don't think my parents would sit around in sumosacs while gaming on their PS3 (yes, they have one, yes, they use it), but a few Sumos would have gone a long way for me and my friends - too bad I already have Real Furniture. :P

Yeah, thanks for this totally non-technical review. It made it impossible for me to view this page at work since bean bags don't qualify as technical reading. Wonderful bloody waste of time. Next time, maybe don't post non-techy stuff on the front page? Thanks alot :(

at 2:54pm CST on July 3rd, 2008, I'm seeing it at $249 for the King, and $229 for the Large. I'm assuming the one pictured is of the Large variety, given the price mentioned?

Man, what great timing!

I've been debating between this (medium or large at best) and the lovesac (this one particularly http://www.lovesac.com/item.asp?PID=470). I was also mislead into thinking that this had beans instead of foam just like the omni.

Decisions decisions...

"After its initial beating, my SumoSac didn't require much additional fluffing, either."

Seriously time to start putting nsfw tags in your articles, ya pottymouth!

I loved seeing how the logo forms "owns" when turned upside down (third picture).

So who is the poor person getting squished under the sumo ? I wish there was a place around here I could try one of them out. It looks comfy but I hate spending money on something i havent tried out in person.

When I was a kid my parents had a beanbag chair. My brother and I were jumping on it when a seam exploded. The beans in it were miniscule maybe 1/8 inch in diameter. Needless to say we found beans from the exploded chair for months after the explosion.

I guess you have to ride one of those single-speed street bikes to appreciate them cause I'm not seeing the benefit of giving up the other 10 gears.

I LOVE that front page picture

And these things look awesome. I almost want one, and I'm not big on beanbag chairs.

As the name implies, definitely a bean bag for the sumo wrestler.

I think I'll have one of these for my armchair once we complete sale on our own house. It looks to consume similar floorspace, and at 60 pounds you could rig up a net from the ceiling if you really needed to store it.

Here's the part that I don't like about bean bags: they tend to hog up all the floor space more than a proper chair would.
