Nvidia is gonna have a hard time taking a cut in revenue. After all, overpricing their products due to no competition was just so easy and comfortable for them.

Every one knows that, so called lower prices, are out of reach of most enthusiasts,
and should be at least another $100 lower today, when spending is being cut down by an average user. I also prefer NVidia, and will never go back to ATI cards, nevertheless, for now sticking with my highly OCed 9800GTX that on paper beats all existing cards after easy OCing |

If there is anything that can be said about ATI's 4850 pricing, it is that competition is a necessity if you want maximum value for your $$. So don't go spiting NVIDIA with intensely evil thoughts now.
I think the pricing is an attempt by ATI to get some sort of decent market share because they really do not have that at all right now. Make people happy and kill off some of those "ATI drivers suck for eternity" folks. Why else undercut the competition so heavily? |

$150 price cut is a real axe... Nice!
Rumours tell that Nvidia negotiates to ATI for allowing Physx support but ATI does not entertain them because they have Havok. Well, Agea Physx soon dies after acquisition. Obviously Nvidia has no match if it competes Intel and AMD at the same time. Edit: As the PhysX on Radeon saga continues to unfold, it seems that Nvidia is in fact helping NGOHQ.com develop the software needed to run CUDA on AMD boards. "The bad news is we still don’t have access to any HD 4800 hardware yet. It is very important for this project to receive AMD’s support on both developer and PR levels. It seems that AMD still is not being cooperative, we get the feeling that they want this project to fail. Perhaps their plans are to strangle PhysX since AMD and Intel have Havok. We truly hope this is not the case since “format wars” are really bad for the consumers (For example: Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD). Before we get to the good news, I’m going to ask you to hold on to something steady as some of you are going to feel a bit dizzy after you hear this. The truth is… Nvidia is now helping us with the project and it seems they are giving us their blessings. It’s very impressive, inspiring and motivating to see Nvidia's view on this. Why they help us? My best guess would be: They probably want to take on Intel with CUDA and to deal with the latest Havok threat from both AMD and Intel." Source: http://www.pureoverclock.com/story2378.html |

You know, my 4850 has been a little fiddly and I was half-thinking of returning it. As things stand, I think I'll keep it just to thank AMD.

Very tempting nVidia, but I won't buy a Geforce again for a few years simply because of the 9800GTX price cuts. If I had bought a 260 or 280, I'd probably be even more pissed off.
Going to AMD for the first time when they release the X2. Their product line is much simpler and their prices are much more constant. |

Has AMD made a profit since buying ATI? I really do enjoy these low prices, but I would hate to see AMD go bankrupt over it.

I bet that if ATI AMD had a good product in the same time nvidia launched 8800GTX that price of $650 would have dropped too..

I absolutely love this. Thanks to ATI, nvidia no longer has the right to gouge us just because. I'm glad the red team kicked them in the nads, they deserve it
So much for that "can of whoop ass" LOL |

I prefer nvidia to ATI cards but I would like to see ATI gain some serious marketshare with these cards, AMD / ATI need the money something shocking.
That being said, these cards are not realyl what make money, ATI need contracts with Dell or HP for notebook displays, that's where the real $ is |

DAMMIT YOU ROCK! The price performance of the HD4850 may bring that GTX 260 down a little more. |

Where are all the team red bashers now? Those team green folk should be mighty happy that team red did something RIGHT to lower the prices on the green team's side.

Next month HD4870 X2 will be released at a lower price point than the newly announced $499 GTX280.
Apart from its more modern feature set it ought to be considerably faster as well. I wonder if NVidia owners now realize how they have been getting shafted with those ridiculous prices. They could have priced the GTX series cards more reasonably from the get go but instead chose to stick it to their fanbase for their loyal support. The negative press they've received over this new generation's prices has cost them dearly. |

Yes the 260 is nearly at the same price as the 4870, but this wont worry ATI, since the 260 isnt competing with the 4870, its still trying to beat the 4850, which is still $140 cheaper...

The price may be lower but their drivers are still crap. Until they get their drivers sorted I won't be looking at Nvidia cards unless they are almost free.

I'm sticking with my 8800 GT. The need to buy a new video card won't present itself for me for awhile yet given the 8800 GT's feature set and performance.
Nvidia is taking some lumps now but it's to be expected; no one remains king of the hill consistently without having the right to wear the crown challenged every now and then. |

I'm more of a green person when it comes to video cards, but I've never been more excited to see AMD thrash them. Since I plan to buy another nVidia card sometime it will be probably be 20% cheaper thanks to AMD providing stiff competition.

Looks like nobody was stupid enough to pay for their overpriced bloated gpu, especially the GTX 260 which was collecting dust and will continue to collect dust. It's time all new games convert to DX 10.1 and throw away that "The way it's meant to be played" BS. Games should not be optimized for only one type of gpu.
