Hasn't Dell already got something *somewhat* similar?

I thought those were called tablets, but I guess if Apple does it...

The source goes on to claim Apple will sell the system at a "low" price with tight margins in order to encourage uptake.

Hahahahha...thats the real revelation...apple selling something with tight margins...

No bigger than 10" please. A tablet needs to be carried easily.

Yeesh. I've said it before, but it bears saying it again here; I can't stand it when other people touch my screen and I never do it myself. It goes against every tech-lovin' fiber of my body.

Maybe the tech-dumb side of potential/already Mac users will gobble these up, but for me I don't like to use a product if it inherently means fighting my instincts.

What I don't get is where are all the "-killer" products?? Why must every other company wait for Apple to release something to wake up and push the boundaries?

I know there's debate about Apple and "innovation" (I'm quoting it to satisfy both sides of the fence), but why isn't there any debate about all those other companies not doing squat until some i<product> comes out and suddently everyone "*was* about to release something better".

Take tablet for example. Right now everything's identical in terms of function, and most (if not all) are in convertible format. If Apple does release a Macbook touch, everyone and their mothers will be jumping up and down with their -killer and claming "you know, we thought about it since way back then, and our approach is better".

Like or hate Apple, but they do make whatever market they're in more interesting to follow.

Personally? I'm waiting for an X200 tablet. But now that I've read about it, I definitely won't pull the trigger before October, because, you know, "what if".

One of my coworkers has a tic for pointing at things on his LCD by jabbing his finger halfway through the pixels. His display has a layer of accumulated grease sufficient to repack a wheel bearing. I would love to see what a MacTouch notebook looks like once it encourages this behavior by default. Will it have to be cleaned with a spatula?

So wait, I can now upgrade my Thinkpad x41t to a Mac!? Cool. If it's at a halfway reasonable price, sign me up for at least one.

This will not be a high-volume lower-margin product that was mentioned before. I think this guy has flipped his lid. This is a niche product no matter how hard they try and won't move gazillions of units.

I understand people not wanting to touch screens that aren't supposed to be touched but for touchscreens which are designed to be touched? Come on, get over it..

If they do a tablet, it won't be a general purpose device like what MS has been pushing for the past few years. That market is just too narrow to interest Apple.

If they do something along this line, it will be an extenuation of the iPod Touch. I can't really imagine what they would to, other than make it larger, but I really don't think they are going to try to do what MS is doing in this space.

Somehow I'm reminded of those courtroom dolls: "Now Timmy, show us where Mr. Herman touched you on this MacBook."
