Looks like Intel has jumped ahead of AMD's Fusion program with a much more compelling architecture.
These SoC's will also seriously affect AMD's small Geode and Turion design wins.
Intel is circling the wagons around AMD on the high and low ends. Oh, what's a poorly run company sans innovation and vision to do?

You know, I've been thinking for a while that there's a niche for x86 in set-top boxes. Imagine, for example, that TiVo (or your cable STB) had a "YouTube Channel" that just plugged directly into the site. For this to work (well) you need a Flash player, and the easiest way to get that is to be x86. But once you have a Flash player, you can also plug into sites like PopCap that offer casual Flash-based games, and suddenly your STB has "games channels" as well. It's no competitor to XBL or even the Wii, but it's a cheap alternative for people who aren't interested in the whole console experience and wouldn't go for anything beyond casual gaming.

I would love to see a really really really small system build based on this. I mean, this chip, some RAM and flash memory, you should be able to build an entire working computer inside something roughly the size of a deck of cards.

Hey, Intel only needs to shrink that TDP maybe 10~20X to compete with ARM-based designs. Watch out!

Only 86 cores? Why, back in my day we used to have 386 cores! Some of my friends' relatives even had 486 of them, but wouldn't let us play on them.
