I thought that the "+" was perfect. It's the same chip functionally, just very very mildly cooler and lower volts, possibly with a very small increase in clock headroom.

There's no need for a full new name for a functionally identical product. 9600GT+ it should be.

9600GT-S?
The shrink will be good as the 9600GT is a great little card already.
A bit more power will make it a formidable part in the sub $150 range.

Maybe the AIB partners will differentiate them for us.

Well, that sucks, they should make a whole new product name with a new box and everything...

Wait, wasn't it just last week that I was just complaining about how how NVidia keeps making new products with almost exactly the same chip and I was so infuriated that they were trying to trick me.

Boy, I am so confused, I just can't figure out what I should be complaining about this week...

This is a line that should not be crossed. Hopefully it just becomes a 9600GT+, or I don't know, they just stop with this + crap here and now before it gets out of control and call it a different product.

I love how there's no rhyme, reason, or uniformity to what Nvidia does.

They relabel the 8800GS the 9600GSO, literally for no reason, and with no significance to yet another new model suffix.

They make a die shrink of the 9800GTX, and name it the 9800GTX+.

They introduce the 9800GT, a die shrink of the 8800GT, which also supports hybrid power, but also mix in relabeled left over 8800GT stock, which are different.

And now, before the 9800GT is even out, they do pretty much the same with the 9600GT, but DON'T relabel it.

It's like their entire business model revolves around tricking people into buying things that aren't the best choice for them so that they can sell dumbed down products and charge premiums. It's completely ridiculous how many variations there are, and how their model desigations, even after being changed, indicate practically NOTHING about what the product actually is.

And all this after they said they were changing the naming scheme because they recognized it was too confusing for customers who aren't keeping up with it...lol so I guess the goal is to take their previous idea down in a blaze of glory and make it as outrageous as possible?

Nvidia's saturation reminds me of a cup of cold water splashed on you during a hot summer day.
